Planting the Seeds for JRB Design

If the remaining weeks of winter in Atlanta are anything like the cold and rain we’ve had so far, we’ll be doubly excited for sunshine and spring flowers. We kicked off the year previewing selections from Georgia growers – 90% of what’s in your containers are sourced from them – and placing orders. Visits to the Atlanta Market, tropical plant suppliers in Florida, and design conferences delivered inspiration and excitement. We do this planning to bring you even better containers with each delivery.

HGTV Features JRB, Inspires Jennifer’s Garden Trends List

Jennifer Rust Botanicals is featured in the Top 24 Garden Trends of 2024 from HGTV. The front porch containers (No. 15) impress with dramatic fullness, texture, and tropical plants.

HGTV’s trend roundup and her own ideas inspired Jennifer to share JRB’s “Hot List” for 2024.

1. Terracotta pots return but make them without the grapevine relief. These are freeze-proof for Atlanta and with clean, modern lines. They come in larger sizes than seen before, and JRB has them in stock.

2. Plants that withstand variable weather combat climate change. Drought-tolerant varieties will be in spring containers. These start with fewer flowers and a bit small. Come late July, a show of blooms awaits after your vacation, even if your teen neighbor forgot to water them. Bonus: many drought-tolerant plants are pollinator havens.

3. Classic topiaries are a nostalgia trend we’re cheering. While topiaries are more expensive than the typical center plant, topiaries of boxwood or ligustrum last for years. We love to change seasonal color and accents around topiary shapes for ongoing interest.

4. Sanctuary design for an outdoor escape get a boost by adding containers to create calm. Whether a Zen style, resort feel, or cottage garden design, it’s heavenly.

5. Kokedamas are gaining interest with cool creations. The Japanese-inspired design of a root ball covered in moss is one JRB’s done for years. These are easy to maintain with just a weekly soak in water, and beautiful indoors and on a patio.

6. Holiday 2024 is loaded with balls, balls, and more balls. Shiny champagne, matte gold, pearl white and many shades of pink–gorgeous metallic colors. JRB has new holiday product designs in the works and is already collaborating on concepts with clients.

7. Plants marketed to Gen Z left us scratching our heads for a bit. But Gen Z buys more plants than Millennials. Garden centers have petite, pre-potted houseplants for compact live-work spaces—the perfect gift for teens or 20-somethings.
